New Mexico has the potential to add several thousand more jobs over the next decade if it leverages its existing capacity to create high-tech innovations for the evolving solar industry, according to a California-based public policy group.

By 2030, New Mexico could more than double the amount of solar jobs it currently supports. A report from the American Jobs Project, a nonprofit that examines ways “to create good-paying jobs in advanced energy and manufacturing through data-driven economic development,” found New Mexico could support up to 6,800 jobs in the solar industry over the next 12 years from direct, indirect and induced jobs because of the projected growth.
